Is a Tub-to-Shower Conversion Right for Your Clarksville Home?

When was the last time you actually took a bath? For a lot of homeowners, the tub in the hall bath or master bath has turned into an expensive place to stand while you shower. If that sounds familiar, a tub-to-shower conversion might be the most useful bathroom upgrade you can make.

Why homeowners are trading tubs for showers

Easier to get in and out. Stepping over a tub wall gets harder with bad knees, a back injury, or just getting older. A walk-in shower with a low threshold removes that daily hurdle.

Safer. Wet tub floors and high edges are a common place for slips. A shower can include a bench, grab bars, a handheld shower head, and slip-resistant tile.

Easier to clean. A well-designed tile or panel shower with glass has fewer corners and no tub ring to scrub.

More open and modern. Clear glass and floor-to-ceiling tile make a small bathroom look larger and brighter than a tub with a curtain.

Should you keep at least one tub?

If you have young children or plan to sell in the next few years, it can make sense to keep one tub somewhere in the house. Many families convert the master bath tub into a walk-in shower and keep the tub in the kids' or guest bath. We are happy to talk through that with you.

What the project involves

  1. Design visit. We measure the space, talk about how you use the bathroom, and go over tile, glass, and accessibility options.

  2. Tub removal. The old tub and surround come out, and we check the walls and subfloor underneath.

  3. Plumbing and waterproofing. The drain and valve are set for a shower, and the area is properly waterproofed before any tile goes up.

  4. Tile and finishes. Tile, niches, benches, and trim are installed.

  5. Glass and fixtures. Doors or panels, shower heads, and grab bars go in, followed by a final walkthrough.

Popular features to consider

  • Built-in niches for shampoo and soap

  • A fold-down or built-in bench

  • Handheld shower heads on a slide bar

  • Low-threshold or curbless entries

  • Frameless glass doors or a single fixed panel

  • Grab bars that look like part of the design
